Nicholas Thompson April 2019 Resume

My name is Nick Thompson and I am a reporter with a passion for just the facts and absolute truth in the age of “fake news.”

However, this does not mean objectivity should be pursued just for the sake of objectivity. I believe today it is necessary to be courageous and call a spade a spade at the right moments.

My approach to journalism is not always flashy. If anything, it is a little old school.

When I go out into the field or enter the newsroom, I’m reminded that “the supreme test of good journalism is the measure of its public service.”

Those words are inscribed into the “The Journalist’s Creed,” which was written by the founder of the journalism school at my alma mater, The University of Missouri.

I want people to read, watch or listen to something I produce and be equipped with the information they need to be a better voter, consumer or citizen. Most importantly, I want them to learn something — even if it is just one nugget of information they have not heard or perspective they have considered before. Further, I want each story to have a recognizable and memorable takeaway that leaves audiences aware of where the story fits into a bigger picture.

In today’s fragmented media marketplace, people have many sources to choose from. That’s why my mind is always focused on what is going to be most relevant for audiences.
